Police in Iwamizawa City, Hokkaido, have arrested a man in his 70s and his wife, who is in her 50s, on suspicion of assaulting each other while they were driving in a truck.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:50 p.m. Sunday, NTV reported. Police said the woman is accused of punching her husband in the face while he was driving. The husband suffered minor injuries, including a cut to his mouth.
The husband was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting his wife by hitting her as he tried to fend off her punches with his hand.
During questioning, the woman admitted to the charge, telling police, "I hit my husband because he hit me.” Her husband has denied the allegation and told police he was just trying to defend himself.
Police said they have been called to deal with trouble between the couple several times in the past.
